No, Live Clean products are phosphate free. Live Clean has a commitment to provide products that are better for you and better for the environment, and as a result, we have a list of ingredients that we will never use in any of our formulations - phosphates are on this list.

You claim Live Clean products are SLS free, however you have Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate on your ingredient list.

In the Health and Beauty Care/Cosmetics industry, SLS refers to a specific type of surfactant known as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or its derivative Sodium Laureth Sulfate. SLS has been used for decades and is still used in the majority of low cost, mass market shampoos because it is cheap and a powerful degreaser, but it can be harsh for the scalp. Live Clean shampoos are free of SLS.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is not referred to as SLS in the cosmetic industry and has a completely different profile in terms of performance and mildness. Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is not SLS.

Do Live Clean products contain gluten?

The majority of our products are gluten free, but we do have some products that are not. For consumers who are sensitive to gluten, we always suggest that they test a tiny amount of product on the back of their palm to determine if the product is suitable for them. We purchase ingredients from external suppliers and cannot guarantee that these ingredients were not exposed to or have had incidental contact with gluten.

What is the difference between plant and natural based ingredients?

Plant derived ingredients are natural, renewable, replenishable and sustainable, and therefore the eco-conscious choice to respect, preserve and make as little environmental impact as possible.

Anything that is derived from the earth is natural. This includes petro-chemicals, which are not renewable or sustainable. The use petro-chimicals depletes our natural resources. Live Clean uses only natural ingredients that are renewable and sustainable.

Are Live Clean products different from other “natural” personal care product collections?

Yes! Live Clean is a unique eco-friendly beauty care line that delivers exceptional results using plant and natural based ingredients. Many products, particularly those in personal care, use the term “natural” very loosely today. Companies will use petroleum-based ingredients, for instance, but then claim their product is “natural” because it contains a minimal amount of botanical extracts.

Live Clean lists the percentage of plant and natural derived ingredients on every product. We stand behind our ingredients and products, and choose to be very open with our consumers.

I was looking at the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) cleaning guide and some of the scores for Live Clean products were not very favourable. Can you explain why?

Live Clean makes a commitment to developing products with no harsh chemicals or preservatives that are as good for the earth as they are for people and their pets. The EWG rating system, although noble in its effort to provide meaningful product safety ratings to shoppers, is incomplete and very general; this often results in misleading ratings and conclusions. For example, Live Clean does use fragrance because many consumers still want a pleasant smell when using personal care products, but we screen our fragrances to be sure we do not have any phthalates or unnecessary ingredients. EWG does not take any of these things into account; it reads fragrance and provides a poor rating. We definitely appreciate what the EWG wants to do; however, we do not support how they choose to go about it, from a scientific perspective.

Live Clean actively promotes the transparent disclosure of ingredients by providing all ingredient information on our product packaging.

Why don't you use packaging materials made from recycled material?

At this time the Canadian system of recycling does not accommodate PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) plastic items (designated with No.7 or "Other") as the material is not pure and therefore difficult to separate for recycling. Live Clean products are packaged in virgin HDPE material (No.2) which is the most recyclable material available.

Are Live Clean products safe for use in septic systems?

Yes, all Live Clean products are safe for use in septic systems, as all of the formulas contain biodegradable ingredients and do not contain phosphates or other harsh or unnecessary chemicals.

Are Live Clean products safe to use in lakes?

Yes, Live Clean products are safe for use in lakes, as all formulas contain biodegradable ingredients and do not contain phosphates, which can have a negative effect on aquatic life. While Live Clean products are safe to use in lakes, we do not suggest using any product in our lakes in order to better contribute to a greener planet.
